How to use LectAIve
LectAIve helps you learn the material your professor already teaches, with explanations adapted to your academic background and preferences. It supports the professor. It does not replace them, and it does not change the course’s facts, formulas, or required content.
Getting Started
Welcome, access, and first-time setup
Think of LectAIve as a study companion for the lectures your professor prepared. The AI can rephrase, give examples, and quiz you. The source of truth stays the professor’s concepts, numbers, definitions, and required material.
Your professor invites your email
Access starts when your professor adds the email you will use. LectAIve is invite-restricted. Knowing a classmate’s course name or join code does not automatically enroll you.
Sign up with that same email
Create your account on Log in / Get Started using the invited address. If LectAIve asks you to confirm your email, do that before continuing.
Your courses appear
After you sign in, authorized courses show up under My Learning. You do not need a special code if your email was already invited.
Join codes only request access
On My Learning you may see Have a join code? and Join course. That sends a request. Your instructor still has to approve it before the course appears.
The first time you sign in, LectAIve walks you through a short onboarding survey (about two minutes). You can skip a step and change answers later in Tune my AI.
- Major (this selects your academic persona)
- Current level (Freshman through Graduate)
- Interests, used for analogies
- How you prefer to learn (analogies, formal definitions, or examples first)
- How much detail you want, and how familiar you already are with the subject
- Whether you want plain language and less jargon
- Career goal
These answers help the tutor talk to you. They do not rewrite the lecture your professor approved.
Five academic personas
LectAIve maps your major to one of five personas. The persona changes how material is explained or contextualized, not what the professor taught.
Information Technology / Computer Science
Closest to the professor’s original wording.
Management
Same ideas, framed for organizations and decisions.
Marketing
Same ideas, framed for audiences and campaigns.
Finance
Same ideas, framed for markets and analysis.
Accounting
Same ideas, framed for statements and controls.
Lectures
Your dashboard and taking a lecture
After onboarding you land on Dashboard. From the left sidebar (or the mobile bar) you can reach:
- Dashboard — greeting, search, continue learning, recaps
- My Learning — enrolled courses, Progress, Quizzes
- AI Study Space — practice tools for decks you select
- Notes — notes you saved during lectures
- Settings — Tune my AI, appearance, voice, account
On the dashboard you may also see Courses Enrolled, Continue Learning, Your lecture recap, Recent Summaries, and Your AI knows you with a Tune my AI → link. Course cards offer Start Learning →, Continue Slides →, or Review → based on saved progress.
Open the course
Go to My Learning, then View Course →. Use the Content tab (or Quizzes, if your instructor published any).
Start the lecture
Open a lecture from the outline (Start lecture). LectAIve picks the persona that matches your major automatically.
Move through slides
Read the adapted explanation on each slide. If narration is available, you can listen in the professor’s voice. Use the slide controls to go forward or back.
Leave and come back
Progress is saved. Next time, Continue Learning or Continue Slides resumes where you left off. Opening a lecture is study progress — it is not classroom attendance.
AI Tools
Chat, voice, I’m lost, and Study Space
Ask AI
In a lecture, the side panel has Ask AI and Quiz. Use Ask AI when you want another angle, still grounded in the course:
- “Explain this differently.”
- “Give me an example.”
- “Why does this formula work?”
- “I don’t understand this concept.”
- “Quiz me on this topic.”
Switch between Text chat and Voice conversation. Quiz this slide or Quiz till this slide if you want a quick check.
Voice conversation
Where your browser supports it, choose Voice conversation, tap the microphone, ask a question out loud, and listen to the tutor. Say “stop” or press the button to end. Your browser may ask for microphone permission. Voice is not identical on every phone or browser.
I'm lost - explain differently
On a slide, tap I'm lost - explain differently. LectAIve writes a simpler or alternative explanation of that slide. This is help for you in the moment — not a rewrite of the official lecture for the whole class.
AI Study Space
Open AI Study Space from the sidebar (the page title is Study Space). Pick a course and lecture decks, then generate:
- Flashcards — flip cards from the selected decks
- Study Guide — a structured summary with key points and definitions
- Practice Quiz — ungraded practice questions with explanations
You may also see Exam readiness and Practice weak spots when LectAIve has enough activity to highlight concepts.
Feedback
AI answers, Tune my AI, courses, and issues
Helpful / Not helpful
Under an AI reply in Ask AI, use the thumbs: Helpful or Not helpful. That reaction is for that answer. It helps LectAIve learn how to tutor you better over time. One thumbs-down does not instantly or permanently rewrite your learning profile.
Tune my AI
Open Settings (or Tune my AI → on the dashboard). In Tune My AI you can write custom instructions and update stated preferences: major, level, interests, how you prefer to learn, career goal, and detail preference. What you state here takes priority over guesses LectAIve infers from your activity. Preferences still change tutoring, not the professor’s lecture content.
AI-answer feedback
Thumbs on a specific Ask AI reply (Helpful / Not helpful).
How is this course going?
Broader course feedback on the course page: overall rating, pace, difficulty, and Send feedback. Your instructor sees this combined with others, without names.
Report a problem
On a slide, tell the instructor something is technically wrong. Categories include Something is wrong, Hard to follow, Audio does not match, and Something is missing.
Progress
What gets saved
LectAIve remembers the slide you were on and which lectures you have started or finished, so Dashboard and My Learning can show Continue Learning, Continue Slides, or Review. Slide activity can also feed recaps and study suggestions.
That is a record of work in LectAIve. It is not the same as being marked present in a physical classroom just because you opened a lecture.
Privacy
Personalization stays on the student side
Your professor’s course content — slides, narration, and required material — stays the course record. Your onboarding answers, Tune My AI notes, and tutoring preferences are used to personalize explanations you see. They should not overwrite the professor-approved lecture for everyone else.
